Michigan state house Rep. Bill Rogers (R-Brighton) and Rep. Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City) want the state to create a task force to study creating high speed rail lines between Lansing and Detroit, and between Ann Arbor and Detroit, says a report from the Associate Press.
From the Battle Creek Enquirer:
The Michigan-based Interstate Traveler Company says the project would be privately financed. But the company would need access to rights of way along interstate highways to make it work.
The company says it would cost about $2.3 billion to build elevated lines between Detroit and Lansing and Detroit and Ann Arbor.
According to the story, the rail lines would also become a way to distribute everything from hydrogen to fiber optics.
Ironically, state leaders have proposed such studies in the past, including one by the Capital Area Transportation Authority done by Quandel Consultants of Chicago IL.
