Detroit City Councilman Kwame Kenyatta, who wants Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to resign, announced Wednesday that he is co-hosting a rally aimed to “Heal the City” on Saturday, offering a chance for residents to show their support for Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Worthy issued perjury charges against Kilpatrick and his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, as a result of the text messaging scandal.

“This is your chance to stand up, speak up and say what needs to be said,” Kenyatta said on Mildred Gaddis’ “Inside Detroit” show on WCHB-AM (1200). The rally will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral Concert Center, 10325 E. Jefferson Ave.

Last week Councilman Kenyatta wrote in an e-mail he sent to several Detroit media outlets that Detroit had been “Lied to, lied on and betrayed” by the mayor. Kenyatta also introduced the city council resolution that called for Kilpatrick’s resignation in February.
