It appears as thought Michigan Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R-Livonia) may have tipped his hand in the on-going speculation — fueled by his own public pronouncements — that he is running for President.
In Iowa, a political lobbyist made a big hoopla in an otherwise ho hum event — the auction for placement in the Iowa Straw Poll. The Iowa Republican reports lobbyist Kellie Paschke showed up to bid for an undisclosed candidate. That sent representatives from the other campaigns into a tizzy, finally pushing Paschke to reveal she was an agent for McCotter.
Des Moines Register reporter Jennifer Jacobs then sweetened the situation with this tweet:
Unidentified campaign: Thaddeus McCotter, IA Sen. Kent Sorenson says. Rep said McCotter will be declared candidate by straw poll.
McCotter’s spokespeople would not immediately confirm the Congressman’s Presidential plans, but the Iowa Republican reports he spent a pretty penny — $18,000 — to get in on the straw poll. That’s a lot of cash if he is not running.
