The world’s largest sporting event may come to Michigan within the next decade.

The U.S. bidding committee for the global soccer governing body, FIFA, sent three Michigan locations letters to say they are being considered to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

Ford Field, Michigan Stadium and Spartan Stadium are all under consideration among the 70 potential sites across the country. Southeast Michigan is one of 50 markets being considered to host the world’s most-watched sporting spectacle.

The last World Cup in 2006 drew 3.3 million people to German stadiums to watch soccer matches, or more than 52,000 people per match. Anywhere between 300 million and 1 billion people watched the cup. Needless to say, Michigan getting the World Cup would be a major tourist attraction and public relations show.
