Should Levin be mad at Citigroup or mad about the bailout?

By Minehaha Forman | 01.27.09 | 10:55 pm

According to The Detroit Free Press, Michigan’s senior Senator Carl Levin is “livid” that Citigroup is buying a brand new $50 million jet for company execs.

I can understand why he’s mad: Could the money to purchase the jet be pinched from the $45 billion which Citigroup received from taxpayer “bailout” money? Meanwhile auto execs were shamed into agreeing to sell their private jets in exchange to convince congress that they needed a $17.4 billion bailout.

But wasn’t Levin a supporter of bailout package that awarded Citigroup the extra money in the first place? He voted for the bailout, anyway. (Fortunately, Citigroup’s management wised up and axed delivery of the jet.)
