After forming an exploratory committee in November, Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox said Thursday that he intends on declaring his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010 sometime this summer, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Cox made the announcement after giving a speech on the state’s economy at the Canton Economic Club Luncheon, declining to be more specific about his run.

U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, of Holland, confirmed on Monday his intentions to seek the GOP nomination.

Cox and Hoekstra join several other Republicans said to be weighing gubernatorial bids, including state Sen. Tom George of Texas Township, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land of Byron Center and Ann Arbor businessmen David Brandon and Rick Snyder. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said he would announce by Easter whether he will run.
