Second-quarter campaign-finance reports were due last night from candidates for the U.S. House and Senate, and the telling disclosures are now viewable online at the FEC Web site.

Altogether, Republican candidates raised $9,518,684 between April 1 and July 16. Democrats collected $8,722,489 for the same period.

Continued – In Michigan’s 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th districts, money flowed to incumbents. Outraising their challengers by enormous margins were Democrat Bart Stupak (vs. Republican Tom Casperson — the only of the three Republican challengers to file a finance report) and Republicans Peter Hoekstra (vs. Democrat Fred Johnson), Dave Camp (vs. Democrat Andrew Concannon) and Fred Upton, who outpaced Democratic challenger Don Cooney and reports $1,137,631 in cash on hand while Cooney claims only $16,857.

In the 7th and 9th districts, candidates appear more evenly matched.

Democratic challenger Mark Schauer, currently a state senator, has $928,686 on hand while incumbent U.S. Congressman Timothy Walberg has $855,137.

Republican incumbent Joe Knollenberg reports $1,891,010 on hand. His Democratic challenger Gary Peters raised $570,065 in the second quarter and has on hand $1,080,765.

Note: This story was edited to reflect that Gary Peters raised $570,065 in the second quarter instead of the initially reported lower number of $240,456. It also corrects his cash on hand from the initially reported $1,082,326 to $1,080,765.
