In a familiar tone she’s had with conservatives in Lansing, Gov. Jennifer Granholm said that if Republican lawmakers want tax cuts, they’d better find a way to pay for them.

The Free Press reports that Granholm will not support tax cut proposals, like a state Senate plan to give homeowners a new property tax credit, if they result in less revenue to a state already suffering from significant budget cuts:

If there’s a way to pay for it, I’m always willing to look at it. But to irresponsibly slash revenues to the state at a time when we need to make sure we have education, that we have protection for people, we have health care for citizens, we have to be responsible and find a way to pay for whether we add a program or cutting taxes.
