Former Michigan Republican party chair Saul Anuzis, who lost a recent bid to head the RNC, has been tapped by former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich to serve as the national chairman of a project devoted to defeating legislation to make it easier to form unions.

Anuzis said via YouTube that in his role with the “Save American Jobs Project” he will promote new media messaging about the need to protect the secret ballot.

The Employee Free Choice Act or “card check”, which has been introduced in the House, would give employees a new option for organizing a union. Instead of holding a National Labor Relations Board supervised election, they could choose to join a union simply by signing membership cards.

Aunzis’ new job has earned him a place in the Employee Free Choice Act Union Busting Club.

He is not the first Michigander to be recognized in this way — last week state senator Mark C. Jansen (R-Gaines Township) was added to the club for introducing a (successful) resolution urging Michigan’s congressional delegation to vote against card check.

A report this month by the Center for American Progress found that union growth would stimulate the economy — better paid workers would have more money to spend.
