Now that the American Family Association special called Speechless is off the air in Grand Rapids, the president of the Michigan branch is speaking out. Gary Glenn, who Michigan Messenger was unable to reach before press time yesterday, issued the following statement:
The irony is nothing if not amusing. The name of the documentary was “Speechless: Silencing the Christians.” Homosexual activists’ demands that the traditional Christian perspective on marriage and the family be censored and silenced, and WOOD’s capitulation to those demands, only proves the point.
It’s just the latest and most obvious example of the threat homosexual activists’ political agenda poses to religious free speech rights.
As we reported this morning, the special was set to air on NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids, WOOD-TV Channel 8, Monday but was canceled due President Barack Obama’s press conference. WOOD-TV offered the family organization a time slot on Saturday, but had not heard a response back after 24 hours and decided to rescind the offer.
Gay rights activists had launched a full scale assault on the special, with action alerts coming from the Human Rights Campaign in Washington D.C. and Colette Beighley the associate director of the LGBT concerns office at Grand Valley State University leading the charge.
