The LGBT and Ally Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party is not waiting around for the Safe Schools Coalition to reschedule a planned lobby day in support of anti-bullying legislation. According to a Facebook event, the group plans a lobbying day May 13.

This alternative lobby day event comes as the Caucus and other gay rights groups have been battling over what anti-bullying legislation should look like. On the one side is the Caucus which argues such legislation should contain enumeration- legal jargon for a list of protected classes- while Safe Schools Coalition and Triangle Foundation, a Detroit based LGBT rights group, have argued for support for a compromise bill.

A lobby day was originally scheduled by the Coalition on March 25. But the action was canceled.

The May 13 event will include a briefing by State Sen. Glenn Anderson (D-Westland) and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer will train participants on how to lobby their elected officials.
