Michigan will receive $65 million in federal stimulus funds to be used for child care and disease prevention programs out of $2.3 billion the Obama administration set aside for such purposes, the White House announced today.

The vast majority of the total finds — nearly $59 million — will go toward funding to provide vouchers to families for child care or to provide access to care through contracts with child care centers. It comes under the Child Care and Development Fund, which enables low-income parents and people participating in the Temporary Assistance for Need Families program.

About $6 million is slated to pay vaccines and grants available in Michigan to ensure more people get the shots they need.
