Scores for the standardized tests administered to all Michigan public school students are up in math, social studies and writing.

The Michigan Educational Assessment Program’s results for fall 2008 show a 10 percent jump in proficiency for seventh graders, now at 83 percent, The Detroit News reports. Ninety-one percent of third graders scored proficient on math tests and 75 percent of third- through eight-graders scored the same. Writing scores are up, as well as those in science.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that math scores for middle school students are up.

Education aside, MEAP scores are often used by real estate agents to sell houses by showing which areas have the best schools.
