As reported earlier, Wayne County Sheriff, and Detroit Mayoral candidate, Warren Evans has declared an end of foreclosure sales, or Sheriff sales, in Wayne county. State Sen. Hansen Clarke (D-Detroit) told Michigan Messenger he supports the Sheriff’s action.

“It shows great leadership,” Clarke said.

Clarke said he supports Evans’ call for other county sheriffs to stop foreclosure sales.

“This is an emergency time that requires emergency action,” he said.

Clarke introduced legislation in the state senate last year to create a moratorium on foreclosures, but the bill was never given a hearing or a vote. He plans to reintroduce the legislation this session.

He’d also written Evans a letter in October asking him to stop foreclosure sales and evictions.
