This week’s irony meter was tipped by Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.). The Republican lawmaker representing the state’s 11th District, known for accusing former President George W. Bush of being a communist sympathizer, sent an email memo on Thursday to supporters discussing how nonpartisan Democrats in Congress actually are.

The memo, entitled “McCotter and Republican Caucus Hold Firm for Taxpayers,” touts McCotter’s opposition to the stimulus bill that passed the U.S. House on Wednesday.

Here’s an excerpt:

Every single member of the House Republican caucus opposed the resolution and 11 Democrats joined them. Therefore, this partisan piece of legislation that was pushed through by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressional Democrats was met with bi-partisan opposition.

In fact, it was the Congressional Democrats that denied President Obama’s wishes of a bi-partisan solution to the current economic malaise. It was House Republicans that offered an alternative bill that could have achieved bi-partisan support.

McCotter then cites a memo from Ohio Congressman and Republican minority leader John Boehner (OH-08), which only mentions Republicans who stood in opposition to the bill, ignoring the bipartisan opposition.

Also true to form, McCotter has posted his floor speech expressing his opposition against the bill at YouTube:
