Michigan elementary students posted a third straight year of gains on Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) math tests.
The Michigan Department of Education reports that mathematics scores improved in every grade tested (third through eighth) except fifth grade, which saw only a slight decline. Writing scores improved at the third-, fifth-, seventh- and eighth-grade levels. Eighth-grade science and reading scores also improved.
The scores are from tests administered in October 2007 on content from the previous year. Over 70 percent of the students at each grade level tested were proficient in reading, math, science and social studies.
