The recently announced agreement over changes to the UAW’s contract with Ford (NYSE:F), which included concessions from the union to help the company reduce labor costs and survive tough economic times, also contains concessions from the automaker that may help preserve jobs with the company from moving overseas. Automotive News reports:
Ford Motor Co. has renewed its commitment to build new vehicles at five U.S. assembly plants and to consult with the UAW before it shifts any work to Mexico in steps aimed at preserving union jobs.
The commitments include new products for Ford’s Ohio Assembly, Kansas City Assembly, Michigan Assembly, Louisville Assembly and Chicago Assembly plants, according to a copy of the negotiated contract changes obtained by Reuters.
Finally, a little good news for Michigan autoworkers.
