The seven State Supreme Court Justices for Michigan voted 4-3 to appoint Justice Marilyn Kelly as Chief Justice in an administrative conference. Dissenting from Kelly’s appointment as Chief Justice were Justices Maura D. Corrigan, Robert P. Young, Jr., and Stephen J. Markman.

Kelly will serve as the Chief Justice for the next two years. She becomes the fifth woman to serve as Chief Justice in Michigan Supreme Court history. To read more on Kelly’s background and history visit the Michigan Supreme Court website.
