Election commission approves recall petitions for entire Marquette County board

The embattled Marquette Township Board of Trustees got bad news Thursday morning. The Marquette County Election Commission unanimously approved recall language for all seven trustees. Recall supporters now have until July 31 to collect 359 signatures of registered voters to put the trustees up for vote in November, the Marquette Mining Journal reports.

Jackson city officials delay consideration of anti-discrimination ordinance

Officials in Jackson are gearing up to consider an anti-discrimination ordinance that’s likely to be a lightning rod for conservative activists who have been scrutinizing a similar human rights ordinance in Kalamazoo. After originally slated to be on the city council’s agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, the proposed Jackson ordinance is now scheduled for Aug. 11, according to Bill Ross, Jackson’s city manager.
