The pipeline that spilled an estimated million gallons of Canadian crude into the Kalamazoo River system last month has a dent in the section that runs under the St. Clair River where it crosses into Ontario. Half of Michigan’s population receives drinking water from systems downstream from this crossing.

The plan has been laid-out, governors throughout the region have signed-on to it and the money is now available. All that needs to happen now is a political engine to move the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative forward. And even though he might be new to Washington, D.C., U.S. Rep.
