For the second year in a row civil libertarians have accused the Dearborn Police Department of violating the First Amendment by arresting Christian missionaries talking and handing out literature to predominately Muslim attendees of the Dearborn International Arab Festival.

Penalties proposed for interrupting church service

Several Michigan lawmakers are proposing a bill that would create a $5,000 penalty for anyone interrupting a church service. Bill sponsor Rep. Dave Agema of the 74th district, which includes parts of Kent and Ottawa counties, says that a few dozen legislators have agreed to co-sponsor the legislation.
