Tax controversy forces Bernero campaign treasurer to step down

Charles Moore, the treasurer for the gubernatorial campaign of Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, has stepped down. In a press release from Bernero’s campaign, the campaign says Bernero asked Moore to step down. Moore agreed, sending a letter to the Democratic candidate. In the letter, Moore wrote:

The treasurer for Lansing Mayor Virgil Bernero’s campaign committee for his bid for governor owes $91,000 in overdue property taxes, reports the Lansing State Journal. Charles Moore tells the paper he has made arrangements to pay the money owed, but has “been a victim of the economy.”
