Soaring 20 points up in the polls, GOP nominee for governor Rick Snyder has given his top strategist John Yob the green light to ditch the Michigan gubernatorial campaign and instead focus on the senate bid of Nevada Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle, reports the Grand Rapids Press.

John is the son of former Republican National Committeeman Chuck Yob, and was a consultant on the John McCain for President campaign. He started the political consulting firm Strategic National as well as the Republican Web Department. The Republican Web Department, Messenger reported in January, was claiming some responsibility for the Massachusetts win of Republican Scott Brown to take over the seat long held by “Lion of the Senate” Ted Kennedy when he passed away in summer of 2009.

In that January blog, Messenger noted that Yob’s web applications were in use by the Snyder campaign.

Snyder, an Ann Arbor businessman, won a five-way August Primary to take up the GOP mantle for governor. He will face Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, a Democrat.

The surprise upset victory of Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown in the race to replace Ted Kennedy in the Senate is being credited, as least in part, to a Grand Rapids tech firm.

The company, Republican Web Department, is credited with the development of an I-phone application which helps political activists identify voters, both before election day and on election day.

The Grand Rapids Press reports the company was started by John Yob, son of former GOP National Committeeman Chuck Yob, following the defeat of Sen. John McCain in the 2008 Presidential elections.

“There’s no doubt the Obama campaign was light years ahead of the McCain campaign,” said Yob, emphasizing he is selling exclusively to Republican campaigns.

The company has developed three applications, Yob reports to the Press.

First is the voter identification application called Walking Edge. That program allows real time interactivity between door knockers and campaign teams. The application uploads real time data on who has voted, allowing on-foot get out the vote (GOTV) activists to quickly identify which of their voters have no yet voted, and send some one calling to make sure they get to the polls.

A second application, not named by Yob publicly, is an online calling tool. This tool allows activists and campaign officials to monitor which voters have been called. This application was field tested in the blow out campaign win of state Sen. Mike Nofs over Democrat state Rep. Marty Griffin in November.

The third application is not clearly identified, except to note that it was used successfully by the GOP primary campaign for governor of Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder. That application, Yob told the Press, helped Snyder win the Mackinac Island straw poll.

And Democrats and Snyder opponents might take note, Yob says all three applications will be used by the Snyder camp.

LANSING — While the state is coming down from its second temporary shut down in two years, ever increasing unemployment and unresolved budget issues, Michigan House Republicans this week introduced legislation to amend the state constitution to define life as beginning at fertilization.

The resolution to amend the constitution was introduced by Democratic Rep. Jim Slezak of Davison and Republican Rep. Paul Scott of Grand Blanc. There were a total of 23 co-sponsors for the bill.

That bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee which is controlled by East Lansing Democrat Mark Meadows, a staunch supporter of abortion rights. So it’s unlikely it will be rushed onto any legislative agendas or to the floor of the Democratic-controlled House.

In order for the state constitution to be amended, lawmakers must approve a ballot measure or voters must circulate a petition to gather enough signatures to put it on the ballot.

Scott has recently been urged by a faction of GOP activists to run for secretary of state.

The life begins at fertilization amendment would certainly play well to the right to life crowd, a core constituency in the Michigan GOP.

The so-called egg-as-person movement has been making appearances across the country. Last Nov. Colorado voters soundly defeated an amendment to its constitution. But as Ernest Luning over at Michigan Messenger’s sibling site in Colorado reported last November, that defeat, at 3-to-1 margin, was not a bad thing to organizers. They announced they would seek similar amendments in other states.

Jack Hoodendyk, a candidate for the chair of the Michigan Republican Party, sent out a letter to supporters today in which he describes a feud between former National GOP Committeeman Chuck Yob and Saul Anuzis, the current chair of the MI-GOP and a candidate for the national GOP chair, as “open warfare.”

The open warfare has been destructive to the party. It has caused us to take our eye off the ball and forget whom the real opponent is. It reminds me of professional sports teams who keep losing games. After awhile the players start blaming each other for the miscues and losses and forget about playing as a team in a unified effort to win.

I believe what happened was a departure based on personality, not philosophy. I’m not sure when it started, but in the recent election cycle, it was a fight between those who supported Romney for President (Saul) and those who supported McCain, (Yob). Charges and counter-charges were leveled, accusations were made, sides were taken and many players chose sides.

Hoogendyk goes on to say the “warfare” is distracting the youth wing of the party, and it is time for the party to join forces and stop the fighting. His message? The party faithful should rally around Hoogendyk’s platform for chair.
