The Michigan Department of Education announced Monday that Detroit Public Schools’ financial operation is in such disarray that an emergency financial manager is being appointed to take over the system’s finances.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan declared today that the district is in a “financial emergency.”
State law mandates that a financial manager be appointed by the state and take over all financial authority in the district.
Detroit Public Schools superintendent Connie Calloway was scheduled to speak and take questions from parents at 5:30 p.m Monday at Renaissance High School in Detroit. Michigan Messenger will post a report of that event later this morning.
