Lansing State Journal eliminates 34 positions

By Todd A. Heywood | 12.04.08 | 1:35 pm

Lansing area media report 34 positions have been eliminated at the Lansing State Journal. Among the positions cut was long-time entertainment reporter Mike Hughes, and most of the staff of the Gannett News “independent” entertainment newspaper Noise, according to The City Pulse today.

In an interview yesterday LSJ’s executive editor Mickey Hirten declined to discuss the number of layoffs coming, but promised a statement in today’s Journal. No such statement appears in either the print edition or the on-line edition of the paper.

Michigan Messenger left a message for Hirten this morning, but the call had not been returned by the time this was published. Michigan Messenger will continue to monitor and report on this unfolding story.
