Local leaders plan ads to support auto bailout

By Ed Brayton | 12.04.08 | 1:27 pm

Local political leaders in Detroit are pulling together to run an ad campaign encouraging voters to contact their legislators and support a rescue package for the ailing auto companies. WDIV reports:

While Detroit’s automakers are making a second bid for $25 billion in funding in Washington Tuesday, local leaders have kicked off a campaign to garner national support for the domestic automakers.

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano spearheaded a campaign to help the automakers gain national support by offering $10,000 of his own political funds for ad campaigns for the Big Three.

The donated money will be used to run advertising in targeted states such as Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Detroit and Washington, D.C., to encourage constituents to ask their representatives to support the bridge loan package.

Others supporting the campaign include Detroit Regional Chamber, Roger Penske, Peter Karmanos, and Compuware.
