The Michigan State Police are eagerly awaiting the development of rules regulations around medical marijuana, said a spokesman for the top law enforcement agency in the state. But First Lt. Matt Bolger, of the executive division of the MSP, said the law is not particularly precise.
He noted that the law did not provide a legal way for patients to obtain marijuana and when asked how patients would do so, he responded, “That’s the million dollar question.”
He did however say that the MSP would enforce the law based on the facts of each case. He noted that the MSP is involved in the enforcement of prescription drug abuse. “We will enforce the criminal laws.”
Asked if that included using the list of registered medical users for criminal investigations, he responded with a terse, “No.”
“If we come across somebody who has a legal amount (for personal medical use) and is not violating the law, then they are not violating the law. We don’t make policy judgments, we enforce the law the way it is given to us. We’re kind of waiting for community health to promogulate the rules and go from there,” Bolger said.
