The protest of an evangelical church by a group of self-proclaimed “queer anarchists” made it on FOX News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor” with Bill O’Reilly Monday night. The protest happened on Nov. 9.
That protest has set the right-wing blogosphere on fire, and O’Reilly picked up on it. His guests were Guy Richardson, a member of Mount Hope Church and vice chair of the board for the Citizens for Traditional Values, and Austin Nemocks of the Alliance Defense Fund.
The story also includes the first released video of the protest.
The video of the broadcast was posted by Kyle Bristow, who has called the protest a “sexual deviant attack on Mount Hope Church.” Bristow is the current communications director of Young Americans for Freedom of Michigan State University and the group’s former chair.
During the broadcast, O’Reilly does not have any representative of either Bash Back! Lansing, the group that executed the protest. In addition, O’Reilly said his program called the Attorney General’s Office as well as the Eaton County prosecutor’s office to find out if charges would be filed, and both groups said no.
What was not reported is that the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department told Michigan Messenger that it was informed only of the outside protest, which O’Reilly does not mention, and that that protest was “legal.”
The audio interview with Bash Back! Lansing spokesman Andy can be heard here, and it clearly shows the protest had nothing to with gay marriage protests, as O’Reilly implied, but rather about what Bash Back! Lansing says is “debrainwashing” the youth of the church.
