MIGOP chair Anuzis going national?

By Ed Brayton | 11.12.08 | 8:37 am

In the wake of last week’s disastrous election, Republicans are poised to name a new chairperson for the Republican National Committee (RNC). This Republican blog names Michigan GOP chair Saul Anuzis as one of the potential candidates.

The blog notes that if McCain had won the presidential election, he would have named the new chairman himself; because Obama won, the 168-member RNC will vote for a new leader shortly after the inauguration in January. The entry for Anuzis says:

Saul Anuzis – the Michigan GOP chairman is known as a very vocal and media-friendly figure. He endorsed McCain in 2008 and is very well-connected in Washington circles. There is worry about the current state of the MI GOP, however, under his tenure there.

The McCain campaign withdrew from Michigan a few weeks before the election, choosing to spend resources in other states they believed they were more likely to win. After that decision was made, several Republican county chairs in the state were furious, with angry emails criticizing both the McCain campaign and the Michigan Republican leadership being made public.
