The transition team for President-elect Barack Obama has posted a notice on its Web site that the new administration will not discriminate in hiring on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, National Public Radio is reporting.
In addition to this, a coalition of national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups has formed an organization called the Presidential Appointments Project. The new project has the following mission, according to its Web site:
“The Presidential Appointments Project serves as the talent bank for openly LGBT professionals seeking appointed positions in the next presidential administration. If you’ve ever considered working for the federal government, now is the time to start thinking about whether you have what it takes to work for the president to help change our country.”
Groups involved in the project include The Victory Fund, Human Rights Campaign, National Center for Transgender Equality, The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, National Stonewall Democrats, National Black Justice Coalition, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, Federal GLOBE, Council for Global Equality, Pride at Work, Lambda Legal, and Log Cabin Republicans.
