Petoskey News-Review praises Michigan Messenger investigation of Sovereign Deed, calls for answers

By Eartha Jane Melzer | 02.04.08 | 2:31 pm

In a Monday editorial, “Questions Must Be Answered,” the Petoskey News-Review called on  elected officials to look into allegations raised by Michigan Messenger reporting on false claims made by Barrett Moore, CEO of Sovereign Deed.

In a series of articles beginning in October, Michigan Messenger reported that Sovereign Deed sought public support for a base to house the rich at Pellston’s airport and that Moore has systematically misrepresented his background, lying about his military service and business history.

Moore has called the Michigan Messenger stories “unscrupulous” and threatened a lawsuit,  but he has not provided any information to show the reporting was inaccurate.

The editorial writer at the Petoskey News-Review, the most prominent  paper in Emmet County, where Sovereign Deed sought to locate, told  Moore “to put up or shut up” and chastised elected officials for failing to research Moore’s claims before approving his plans.
