Thompson skips Michigan, heads for South Carolina

While GOP presidential front-runners campaign in Michigan for Tuesday’s primary, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson has opted out of campaigning in Michigan and instead has headed to South Carolina.

“The entire Republican Party relies on South Carolina to test all the contenders and find the true conservative. That process is well under way. Fred Thompson is the consistent conservative in this race, and he clearly enjoys talking to kindred souls in South Carolina,” Thompson’s campaign manager Bill Lacy said in a press release.

According to a Detroit Free Press poll, Thompson currently is polling at 4 percent in Michigan. A recent The Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll has him polling at 9 percent in South Carolina.
