Huckabee to stump for Hoogendyk, blames economic crisis on terrorism

By Todd A. Heywood | 10.17.08 | 7:52 pm

Former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will be in Michigan next week stumping for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jack Hoogendyk.

Hoogendyk is a term-limited state rep from Kalamazoo and is challenging Democratic incumbent Carl Levin. Huckabee will attend a fundraiser for Hoogendyk on Oct. 22 at the Farmington Hills’ eatery Vladimirs. Tickets for the event are $50 per person. A sponsorship of $500 or more buys you lunch and a picture with Huckabee.

The Hoogendyk candidacy was endorsed by Huckabee’s PAC back in August.

Now here’s where things get a little odd. Huckabee was on Fox News Oct. 16 and claimed in a conversation with actor Chuck Norris that the economic meltdown is the result of terrorist activities. No, seriously. Here is the video:

And if you don’t want to watch the whole video:

“A friend of mine in the financial markets indicated that he’s been doing a careful analysis of the last 12 days and there seems to be a manipulation in the marketplace. In the last half hour of each day there’s an extraordinary rush of computerized trading going on. He believes that there may in fact be evidence of economic terrorism that is fueling a lot of what is going on . . . I know this is not just some guy out there reading the internet pages, this is somebody who owns a financial company.”

The Hoogendyk camp didn’t have anything to say about this observation from their esteemed guest.

“I have not seen the statement, so I really can’t comment,” said Danae Brock, campaign coordinator for the Hoogendyk camp.
