Tina Fey to come to Michigan?

By Todd A. Heywood | 10.08.08 | 6:59 am

Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Saturday on Fox News that she would “be happy” to campaign in Michigan. And Michigan Democrats are wasting no time in grabbing a hold of this call and making fun of it by starting an online petition to bring Saturday Night Live personality Tina Fey to Michigan to portray Palin in state.

State Dems launched a Web site Tuesday night to get Fey to Michigan.

Fey has enthralled the nation with her portrayal of the Alaska governor on the longest running late-night weekly comedy show. The Web site begins with tying George W. Bush to McCain, saying both had abandoned Michigan, then states:

“Some local Republicans are collecting signatures in an attempt to encourage Sarah Palin to come back to Michigan. We’d like to help our local Republican friends and do them one better by bringing Tina Fey to Michigan! Rally with the Michigan Democratic Party to bring Tina Fey to Michigan by signing the petition below.”

Of course, Fey is getting a lot of cash for her portrayal, and her star is on the rise. She has reportedly been offered up to $6 million to pen a book.

Palin herself, though, is not letting her image go completely. Rumors abound the Alaska governor will appear on SNL this weekend and also that Palin will meet Fey in real life.
