This is part of a shift in strategy, towards new forms [...]

MSU hate group has ties to white supremacy movement

By Todd A. Heywood | 09.14.07 | 12:27 am

EAST LANSING — Kyle Bristow, the chair of Young Americans for Freedom at Michigan State University, has ties to the white supremacy movement — something Bristow flatly denied in this past spring.

In a Michigan State News interview on March 15, Bristow denied the student group was anything like Nazis or the KKK.

“They don’t have a right to compare us to Nazis or the KKK when we’re not like that,” Bristow was quoted as saying in the State News (http://www.statenews…).

MSU YAF was designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center http://www.SPLCenter…) in April. As the organization’s chair, Bristow was listed as the leader of a hate group, by the SPLC which publishes an annual listing of hate groups around the United States and distributes it to over 50 thousand law enforcement agencies.

But an investigation has turned up evidence that Bristow has ties to the white supremacy movement.

The ties were found on Facebook.com.

Continued -Bristow co-administered a group on the site called The American Patriot Movement (http://msu.facebook….). He has since removed himself as an administrator. The Facebook group links directly to a now nonoperational website (Americanpatriot.org).

The group’s other administrator is Preston Wiginton. Wiginton is also listed as the owner of americanpatriot.org. Wiginton is an active poster on the white supremacy movement website stormfront.org. He uses the handle of “True American Patriot” when posting on Stormfront.org.

Here is a partial listing of some of the things he has posted on the website:

“Skinheads by all means daily show their bravery, honour and commitment by wearing their badge (tats) and uniform (boots and shaved head).

To all Skins – B&H – Hammerskins – Independents – State Crews – this is why unity is a must. Our petty differences are just that, petty, compared to the future we face. And that future are days like the title of this thread – except you could add – white person murdured, white girl addicted and white girl made into sex slave.

From the nothern border of mexico – somewhere in Texas where addictions, slaves and murders happen every day.”

“Yes the internet has been great for communication. But we need to be seen in the streets. When was the last time CNN logged on to see how many people were on Stormfront?

Keep up the good work – but get out every once in a while and talk to those of like minded thinking who may not be on any of the boards which you are active. Plus there is nothing like personal contact.

Also get out so the antis can see you.”

In another facebook group administered by Bristow, “Jobs a White man won’t do”, he uses Wiginton’s contact email as the administration email contact of the group. Many posts on the group support Wiginton’s racist attitudes.

MichiganMessenger.com emailed Kyle Bristow for comment, but received no response back from him.

    Poor Article Mr. Heywood,

I am a student at MSU and despise the Young Americans for “Fascism,” but this article does a disservice to them.  Linking Bristow to Wiginton via Facebook doesn’t prove anything, other than that Bristow may know Wiginton.  Even then you can’t confirm without asking both of them directly, because people on Facebook friend each other even though they don’t know them.  I myself have people on my friend’s list who I do not know.

Bristow and Wiginton Anybody can be made an administrator of a Facebook group.  You don’t need permission on Facebook to make someone an administrator of a group.

Administration Again, the reality is, regardless of ease of being an administrator, acceptance of such with a group so clearly associated with the white supremacy movement does indeed indicate a support and continuation of the goals and purposes of the group. If Mr. Bristow is not supportive of these links, one might ask why he accepted such a post to being with. But of course, Mr. Bristow would rather not respond to requests for interviews on such matters. His proven history is clear, he has a racialist agenda, as well as a well established homophobic rhetoric record. His stated 13-point agenda which advocates the elimination of minority student representation on ASMSU, as well as creation of a white council clearly demonstrates a sympathy to, if not outright support of, the white supremacy doctrines.

YAF group mentioned, Kyle prefered. Attention is placed on Kyle Bristow not the YAF group.  Has the MSU YAF group gone astray leaning far too much to the right?  Trapping Ultra conservative people into a name of hate and supremacy?  The 13-point plan is good proof.  The other things mentioned I think are just Kyle’s interests.  He didn’t respond to it, so I can’t say if it’s one of his beliefs are not.  Can’t the reporter call them imbeciles and incompetent be done with it?

Missing a distinction I think there's quite a difference between having a friend on Facebook and co-administering a group with them. Co-administering a group clearly indicates common goals and interests.
