After four years of operation in Michigan, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news into a single site, The American Independent at Americanindependent.com. This is part of a shift in strategy, towards new forms [...]

Monday is last day to get yourself registered to vote

By Mark Maynard | 10.03.08 | 10:17 am

Stories have begun circulating about voter rolls being purged. Just to be on the safe side, it probably wouldn’t hurt to check online and make sure you’re registered. If you’re in Michigan, you can check by clicking here, and entering your zip code and birth date (Warning: checking here will not tell you what address you are registered at, and this year your registered address must match the address on your drivers license to vote.)

I just did it, and it only takes two minutes… As Monday is the registration deadline here in Michigan, you should probably do it now, as long as you didn’t move recently and you’re sure your address will match your license.

If you aren’t already registered to vote, it’s imperative that you find a way to get registered as soon as possible. In some states, you can register online, but, unfortunately, Michigan isn’t one of them. Here in Michigan, your best bet is to follow these instructions from the Secretary of State.

And be careful. If the address on your drivers license doesn’t match the address you’re registered at, you could be legally turned away by poll workers on Election Day.

And, as much as I know people hate being lectured to by self-righteous Hollywood celebrities, I wanted to pass along a link to this new “Don’t Vote” PSA by Leonardo DiCaprio, Courtney Cox, Forest Whitaker and friends. I know I’ll be mocked for saying it, but I really liked it. But, then again, I’m a sucker for sarcasm and Jonah Hill.
