The Democrats on the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph), are drawing attention to more than 150 votes taken in the House to weaken environmental regulation by the EPA and other agencies.
They’ve set up a database on their committee website that “details the 168 votes taken to date by the House that undermine the protection of the environment” since Republicans took over that chamber this January.
“This is the most anti-environment House in history,” said Rep. Waxman. “The House has voted to block action to address climate change, to stop actions to prevent air and water pollution, to undermine protections for public lands and coastal areas, and to weaken the protection of the environment in dozens of other ways.”
Among the bills and amendments voted on are provisions that would significantly weaken the EPA’s authority under the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and other landmark environmental legislation.
