With the deadline for filing campaign finance reports this week, Sen. Debbie Stabenow announced that she raised $1 million for next year’s election, matching her chief Republican competitor, Rep. Pete Hoekstra.
Hoekstra also raised a million dollars during the quarter, while his chief rival for the GOP nomination, Clark Durant, raised $750,000. There is one key difference, however: Stabenow doesn’t have to spend her money on a primary campaign. She now has more than $4 million in the bank for the general election next year.
Update: The MLive report linked to above shorted the 3rd quarter contributions for Stabenow. According to a copy of the campaign’s finance statement obtained by the Messenger, Stabenow actually raised more than $1.2 million and now has just under $5 million on hand.
