Grand Valley State University has become the third state university to provide gender neutral housing for students.
GVSU joins the University of Michigan in publicly offering the housing option after less than a year of discussion from students on the campus, reports the Grand Valley State University Lathorne, the student newspaper. Under the option, students will be able to select male, female or transgender in housing applications.
A box at the bottom of the housing application will also ask applicants if he or she requires gender neutral housing in addition to the applicant’s gender choice.
The option will appear on 2012 applications. Michigan State University also offers gender neutral housing options for students, however, a student must specifically request that option and nothing appears in the university’s housing applications.
