Durant raises $750,000 for campaign

By Ed Brayton | 10.04.11 | 2:54 pm

Clark Durant, the charter schools magnate who is running for the Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Debbie Stabenow in 2012, announced that his campaign had raised $750,000 in the first six weeks of his campaign.

Durant announced his run on August 18 and, like all candidates, will be filing his second quarter campaign finance report with the Federal Election Commission on Oct. 15.

Though the early polls show former Rep. Pete Hoekstra with a massive lead in the race — 51 percent to only three percent for Durant and even less for the other candidates — Durant has racked up some powerful endorsements, including former U.S. Senator Spencer Abraham and two former chairs of the Michigan Republican Party, Betsy DeVos and Saul Anuzis.

The $750,000 he has raised so quickly should provide a big boost to his campaign.
