A recent survey from Public Policy Polling shows Rep. Thad McCotter (R-Livonia) has very little support in his long-shot run for president, even in his home state.
The poll showed that only 5 percent of GOP primary voters would vote for McCotter. The conservative candidate only topped former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty in the survey, reports Mlive.com.
“PPP has rarely found presidential candidates doing exceedingly well in their home-state primaries, but even more rarely has a White House contender fared as poorly as Michigan’s Thad McCotter in his nascent, quixotic bid for the GOP nomination,” PPP writes. …
Michigan native Mitt Romney topped the list with 24 percent, followed by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) at 18 percent, Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 14 percent, businessman Herman Cain and former Speaker Newt Gingrich at 7 percent and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) at 6 percent.
Adding to the dismal support for McCotter is the recent report that he will be left out of a Fox News GOP debate on Thursday, according to The Detroit Free Press.
McCotter was hoping to get into the lineup to shed some light on his campaign before the Saturday Iowa straw poll but Fox News officials say he didn’t meet the support criteria.
Michael Clemente, vice president of news, said this evening that McCotter didn’t meet the 1% support in the polls threshold the network and other sponsors required to be included.
By that criteria, the eight presidential hopefuls selected were Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Herman Cain, Jon Huntsman, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.
McCotter’s campaign has not released a statement regarding the polling numbers nor the absence in the televised debate.
