McCotter signs ‘Pro-Life Leadership Pledge’

By Sam Inglot | 07.12.11 | 3:54 pm

Rep. Thad McCotter signed a pledge this week saying if he is elected he will appoint cabinet members and judges who share his belief that abortion should be illegal in the United States.

The Pro-Life Leadership Pledge has also been signed by six other GOP presidential runners, reports MLive.com.

“The culture of death, as enshrined by Roe v. Wade, is a present danger to the weakest in our society,” he said in a statement released by the Susan B. Anthony List, the conservative non-profit group sponsoring the pledge.

“Unless Roe is overturned, the culture of death will continue to fester and endanger Americans. To protect future generations of Americans, we must work in our families and our communities to uphold the sanctity of human life.” …

By signing the pledge, McCotter agreed to nominate pro-life judges, select pro-life cabinet members, de-fund Planned Parenthood and support legislation that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Mitt Romney, while maintaining pro-life status, has refused to sign the pledge.

If Thad had any smarts, he’d sign the petition to recall Rick Snyder. Then he might actually get some credibility.

I hope people realize that McCotter is ANTI WOMEN!  Women will still have abortions even if its illegal.  Many Women will die if McCotter has his way.  I guess some idiots will vote for this idiot.
Don’t be fooled by the after 20 weeks.  Once in power that will change to no abortions.  How can he be pro life with the after 20 weeks policy.  He’s a politician and it shows.  Don’t be taken by this Republician.

There is no pledge that any presidential candidate should be prepared to swear to other than the one he/she would swear to if they were elected president. Beyond the abortion issue, the GOP is showing their anti-women sentiment with their fanaticism toward defunding Planned Parenthood. Abortions are only a small percentage of their services. They predominantly provide other health services for women (pap smears, mammograms, birth control etc.) along with other low cost medical care that many women would not be able to afford otherwise.

I’m going to steal a comment from state Rep. Scott Randolph, D-Orlando. Randolph suggested that his wife “incorporate her uterus” to stop Republicans from pushing measures that would restrict abortions. Republicans, after all, wouldn’t want to further regulate a Florida business. Hmmm. Interesting concept.
