State: Lake Michigan trout unsafe for eating

By Eartha Jane Melzer | 07.12.11 | 3:51 pm

Michigan health officials say no one should eat any lake trout from Lake Michigan because the fish contain dangerous levels of PCB, dioxins, and the now-banned pesticide chlordane.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports:

The previous “don’t eat” advisory for lake trout caught in Lake Michigan south of Frankfort, including the entire Muskegon area, covered only those 22 inches or larger.

The updated advisory was one of nine changes statewide in the 2011-12 Michigan Fish Advisory. None of the others affected waters in the Muskegon area.

In the case of Lake Michigan lake trout, testing showed hazardous levels of PCBs, chlordane and dioxins in all harvestable sizes of the fish, not just those 22 inches or larger.

The full statewide fish advisory is available from the state Dept. of Community Health website.

Great job the officials are doing!  This is criminal.  All of them should have to do a lot of prison time for this crime.  Would someone please step up and prosecute?  They should also have to pay for the clean up.  Would be nice if we had a justice system instead of a legalized corruption system.  Very tragic and heartbreaking.  Don’t forget to thank the Wisconsin Badger ferry dumping TONS of coal ash in Lake Michigan and proud of it.  Lock them up too in Iran.  The filthy polluters!
