By Staff Report | 11.16.11

I am writing today to announce the closure of the Michigan Messenger. After four years of operation in Michigan, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news into a single site, The American Independent at Americanindependent.com. This is part of a shift in strategy, towards new forms [...]

Oakland Press: McCotter for President is “scary”

By Todd A. Heywood | 07.11.11 | 9:13 am

Congressman Thaddeus McCotter may be from Michigan but his hometown paper is none too keen on the idea of President McCotter.

In a harsh editorial run last week, the Oakland Press says the thought of McCotter being president “isn’t a pleasant thought and is, in fact, “a bit scary.”

But McCotter has some growing to do to fulfill his duties and role as a member of Congress. He certainly isn’t ready to take the reins of leading the nation.

The representative comes off as cold, arrogant and egotistical. These are not qualities we’d like to see in a president. In fact, he wouldn’t get too far in private industry as a company chief executive officer.

Sincerity is important and we do concede that has been loyal to the party. His conservative views are consistent with the basic tenets of the Republican Party.

After knocking McCotter for poor communications skills with his constituents, followed by assailing his rhetoric as short on policy initiative, the editorial concludes:

We’re not sure if McCotter is a serious candidate or just wants to get his name out there for future political advancement.

It’s generally conceded he faces a number of basic problems, including national name recognition, finances and support.

The Oakland Press likes to support native sons, but this is one sibling we think should just stay home here in Michigan and work on his people skills.

Sometimes presidential candidates aren’t very presidential.

Ouch.

Running for president is a lot easier if you have accomplished something and don’t look like a serial killer.

McCotter is, and will continue to be, a typical Republican conservative. I think the Oakland Press was being generous.

Hmm I don’t see how McCotter’s position against free trade with China is typical of the Republican Party these days (I wish it was).  I would consider voting for a Democrat who would take such a position, but that’s not Obama.

As for arrogance, so far from the safe distance of Kansas McCotter seems to have a self deprecating sense of humor.
    Am I missing something here?

Looks? Abraham Lincoln wasn’t exactly pretty. It’s the pretty boys who have got us into this mess. Maybe it’s time to try someone with a brain.

So far he has the most to offer out of the Republican field, as I see it!  I also would like to know when intelligence equals arrogance?  At least when ask a question he gives a full and descriptive answer, not like most politians!

I like the man.  He’s intelligent and a patriot, which is more than I can say about alot of them on capitol hill.  The debates should be interesting.  From what I’ve seen he is true to his tenets and the Republican Party.  That too, is refreshing to see.  I’m looking forward to hearing more from him and I think it will happen when he tears them a new one in the debates.  He has unapologetic substance and that my fellow Americans, is a good thing!

Thad is a tool for the fops in the tea party, clearly put up in Michigan for one reason:  To slow or stop Mitt Romney from getting the favorite son delegation from older Michiganders who still think highly of his father.

If any tea bagger has a chance at the Presidency or Vice Presidency they will have to derail Mitt.

Did I mention Thad is a tool ?
