McCotter is in for the GOP Presidential race

By Todd A. Heywood | 07.01.11 | 9:55 am

Livonia Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter will formally file paperwork to run for the GOP nomination for President Friday.

Advisers to the guitar-slinging legislator tell Politico he will add his hat to the party race Friday, making him the third sitting member of the U.S. House competing for the nomination.

Politico also notes the 45-year-old enters the race with a six figure bank account – although he won’t have to report fundraising until the fall. McCotter has also scored a former Romney backer in Iowa — former Iowa House Speaker Pro Tem Chris Rants was McCotter’s escort last weekend and earlier in the week introducing him to the Iowa activists who will be key for a race.

“Should he decide to run, I will be on board to help him navigate the Hawkeye state,” Rants said.
