Pscholka recall effort moves forward

By Eartha Jane Melzer | 05.24.11 | 2:11 pm

Those seeking to recall State Rep. Pscholka (R-Stevensville) may begin gathering signatures now that Berrien County Election Commission has approved the petition language.

Documents for the recall were filed with the county by Benton Harbor City Commissioner Dennis Knowles, who was stripped of power after a law introduced by Pscholka gave state appointed Emergency Manager Joe Harris virtually complete control of Benton Harbor.

In order to have a vote on recalling Pscholka, Knowles must gather and submit more than 6,700 valid signatures to the Secretary of State within 90 days, WNDU reports.

Pscholka responded to the latest developments with a statement defending the Emergency Manager law as necessary reform and accusing Knowles of self-serving behavior.

The recall effort was announced last month at a Benton Harbor demonstration that drew participants from throughout the state and region.
