Republican Presidential nominee Sen. John McCain will be touring a Dow Corning Corporation factory today. The Republican candidate will be at the plant at 4 p.m. according to Time magazine. The plant makes solar panels, and Democrats are not wasting any time in attacking McCain over the event.
Three Democrats, Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.; and Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., will hold a conference call with the media at 2:30 p.m. today to assail McCain’s record on alternative energy.
According to a press release from the Barack Obama camp about the conference call:
John McCain will be appearing in Michigan this afternoon at a facility that develops solar power technology, an ironic visit given today’s vote and his history of voting against support for alternative energy solutions. McCain’s current plan would give billions of dollars in tax breaks to big oil companies instead of investing in the creation of millions of new jobs here at home.
During his twenty-six years in Washington, D.C., John McCain has consistently opposed support for renewable energy. Given this record, it is no surprise that he has put forward a plan to address our energy crisis by giving oil companies an additional $4 billion in tax breaks.
McCain has made numerous campaign stops in Michigan since winning his party’s nomination and has campaigned in this state with messaging that’s included green-collar jobs. In July, he campaigned in Warren, Mich., at the GM Technical Center and touted the Chevy Volt as an example of the future of green-collar jobs.
