Michigan Secretary of State offices across the state have been unable to process business since Wednesday due to a computer outage.
A press release from the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) indicates the problem started on Wednesday, and while officials worked through the night to restore operations, branch offices are still unable to process business. The Secretary of State office handles everything from driver’s licenses to vehicle registrations.
Staff did identify a severed fiber link, which has since but restored. However, the system connecting all the branch offices remains down.
Update: The Secretary of State office announced a few moments ago that they will waive any late fees for customers who can’t get transactions processed due to the computer problems. They also said that the computer glitch has affected not only them but also “other state departments including Corrections, Treasury, Community Health and Human Services.”
