Big Three post strong sales gains in April

The Big Three American automakers all showed significant increases in sales over the same month in 2010, with General Motors leading the way at 29 percent, Chrysler at 23 percent and Ford at 12 percent.

Overall domestic auto sales were up 18 percent over last year for an annualized rate of 13.2 million units. That’s the third straight month the annualized sales were over 13 million units sold.

As a result of its strong sales, Chrysler reported its first true quarterly profit since its bankruptcy two years ago, coming in at $116 million.
