Weekly jobless claims rise again

In what can only be interpreted as bad news for a start-and-go economic recovery, weekly initial unemployment claims took another big jump last week, up to 429,000 from 404,000.

That pushed the four week average over 400,000 for the first time in two months. That it was below 400,000 for several weeks was seen as very good news by economists, but this sudden reversal the last two weeks is causing great concern over the possibility of a double-dip recession.

Meanwhile, the total number of people getting unemployment benefits dropped by nearly 113,000, which means a large group of people exhausted their benefits.
